If your preferred domestic coffee brewing method is pour-over, investing in a gooseneck kettle is an excellent idea for offering more control over the process. After all, pouring technique is one of the most crucial elements of making great pour-over. Water temperature is another big factor, making it a good idea to choose an electric gooseneck kettle with temperature control to remove the hassle.

This hands-on review will look at a stylish electric kettle from SAKI to determine how it compares to rival variable temperature kettles.

I’ve tested the kettle and made a short review video to show you the key features.

About SAKI

SAKI was established in 2018 to serve the home appliance market. The company has quickly grown a reputation for producing products that combine traditional coffee brewing with contemporary technology and aesthetics. Previously, we reviewed SAKI’s Turkish coffee maker and listed it as one of the best electric Turkish coffee machines. Meanwhile, if you enjoy tea, you can find tea makers with similar qualities in the product range.

As well as coffee machines and tea makers, SAKI also has a range of home appliances, including air fryers, air purifiers, and even an automatic pot-stirrer.

Design

The kettle is packed well in a smart box that would make a great gift. However, when you remove the kettle, you’ll really be impressed. In keeping with other SAKI products, the kettle has a pleasingly modern aesthetic while retaining the unmistakable spout of a traditional gooseneck kettle.

Meanwhile, the sturdy handle has a rubber grip making it easy to hold without slipping, ensuring a steady pour. The kettle sits on a beautiful square base with rounded corners. Meanwhile, the base is thinner than other kettles on the market.

The kettle uses high-grade steel with a matte-black finish, while there’s a soft-close rubber lid.

The kettle’s mass capacity of 34oz (1l) is the ideal size for either single cups or larger batches. Indeed, this capacity means it could become the only kettle you need.

Once you’ve set the kettle on the base, the futuristic-looking red ring light begins pulsing and then turns solid when heating the kettle to the preset temperature. This is very reminiscent of the effect of traditional stovetop kettles on the flame.

Overall, this kettle has a smart and contemporary design with a clean aesthetic that will look beautiful in any modern kitchen.

Build Quality

Saki removes all the plastic materials inside the kettle, which is important as it ensures your pour-over coffee won’t have a burned plastic taste.

Meanwhile, the kettle connects smoothly to the flat base. The soft-close lid is also well-made for a snug fit.

One small drawback is a very stiff power cord, which is also quite short, meaning you’ll need to position the coffee kettle near a power outlet.

User Friendliness

The base has a minimalist design with an OLED screen in the center. Meanwhile, four touch-sensitive buttons enable you to control all the settings.

On the left is a power button enabling you to switch the kettle on by holding it down for two seconds. On the right is a stopwatch button to time the brew.

Plus and minus buttons let you select higher or lower temperatures in 1°F increments, which is a significant improvement on many similar kettles on the market that only allow increments of 5°F or 1°C. Of course, the smaller increments ensure greater accuracy, which, in turn, leads to a better pour-over coffee. If you need to make a quick adjustment to the temperature, it’s straightforward. Just press and hold either the “+” or “-” button until you find the setting you desire.

The display shows the current water temperature alongside the target temperature. With the keep warm mode activated, there’ll be an additional cup icon. Meanwhile, the display is bright, clear, simple, and easy to read.

You can also alternate between Fahrenheit and Celsius by pressing the “+” and “-” buttons simultaneously.

Performance

The kettle uses 1,200w of power for super-fast heating, meaning you can brew your coffee within a few minutes.

The optimal brewing temperature is between 195°F (90°C) and 205°F (96°C), while it heats 1L of room temperature water to the optimal temperature in just five minutes in our testing.

The temperature range of the kettle is between 104°F/40°C to boiling (212°F/100°C), which encompasses the ranges required for coffee, green tea, herbal teas, or even ready-to-drink warm water.

The rim of the kettle has three holes to allow the steam out. However, little steam emerges while it heats up, and it’s one of the quietest kettles we tried.

Once the water heated to our desired temperature, we tested it with a standalone thermometer, and it was perfect.

The kettle’s excellent program features mean it’s not only a fantastic gooseneck kettle for brewing coffee, but it’s also perfect for brewing tea.

Pouring Experience

Gooseneck kettles are an improvement on standard kettles as they allow more control while pouring. The specially designed angle of the gooseneck means you can slow down and control the water flow.

The handle’s rubber grip has a nice texture that ensures increased friction while holding, ensuring your pour is as steady as possible. Another advantage of the rubber grip is that it doesn’t get hot, even after the water has boiled, making the pouring process reassuringly comfortable and offering outstanding balance.

We tested the flow rate of the Saki Baristan kettle, which is a moderate 35 grams per second. Some people prefer a slower rate for pour-over coffee, while others will consider it ideal for brewing French press or tea. Frankly, the kettle is a great all-rounder, meaning it’ll likely be the only one you need.

The curve of the kettle’s gooseneck spout ensures you can get very close to the brewer, allowing you complete control over the water flow into the grounds.

Overall, using the SAKI Baristan electric kettle for brewing coffee is an enjoyable experience.

Other Excellent Features That Enhance Your Pour-Over Brewing

Keep Warm Function

Saki electric kettle maintains your required temperature for an hour, while it activates automatically after you boil water. If you don’t need the function, just turn the kettle off. The function is a particular time-saver if you need to brew multiple cups.

Built-In Brew Timer

One of the essential considerations for pour-over is brew time. If you brew too slowly, the coffee will be over-extracted. Conversely, if you brew too quickly, you’ll end up with a weak, watery beverage.

It’s recommended that you pour a small amount of water over the grounds to begin with and leave it for 30 seconds or so for blooming. That way, the gas can escape from the grounds for better extraction. After blooming, continue pouring or divide the process into different phases. The built-in brew timer makes the whole process easier.

Also, the timer is also useful if you’re brewing for French press, which necessitates allowing the water to sit for four to eight minutes before plunging.

Just press the stopwatch button, and the OLED screen will begin a five-second countdown. This leaves enough time to pick up your kettle and begin pouring.

Smart Light Ring

Many coffee lovers find the beeping sounds of other kettles intrusive, but the SAKI Baristan electric kettle circumvents this issue with a stylish red indicating light. When the kettle is heating water, the light at the foot of the kettle turns solid. When the desired temperature is reached, the light begins glowing with a breathing effect. So you know the hot water is ready.

Auto-Off Function

The kettle automatically powers off when the kettle is empty to prevent dry burning.

Value For Money

The SAKI Baristan has almost everything anyone could want in a gooseneck kettle. Indeed, it has most of the features in more expensive kettles like the Brewista Artisan kettle and Fellow Stag EKG kettle. However, the design aesthetic is the most significant difference between it and those pricier options. While aesthetics are obviously subjective, we love the SAKI Baristan’s design, while the breathing red light indicator makes it stand out as unique.

Overall, if you’re looking for a well-built and well-designed gooseneck electric kettle that does the job well, this is well worth the money – particularly in comparison to more expensive kettles.

Our Verdict

The SAKI Baristan electric kettle is an excellent option for anyone interested in stepping up their pour-over brewing technique.

The kettle is well built, and SAKI has clearly put plenty of thought into it. For example, the absence of plastic inside the kettle, the easy-to-hold rubber grip to enhance control over pouring, and the breathing effect of the red light indicator, eschewing the need for an intrusive beeping sound.

The performance is also excellent, comparing favorably with other options on the market. For some, the pouring speed maybe a little fast, but that’s unlikely to be a deal-breaker, and it also means that it’s ideal for other brewing methods, including the French press and pouring for tea.

With all of its advantages, it’s remarkable that it’s less expensive than many rivals.

Overall, the SAKI Baristan electric kettle could is a fantastic product that will almost certainly become the only kettle you need.
