A kettle for pour-over coffee doesn’t have to be complicated. However, some extra functions can save you lots of hassles.

The Brewista Artisan is an excellent gooseneck variable temperature kettle designed for hassle-free pour over. Besides heating up the water, the gooseneck spout offers better pouring control, and it also offers a range of useful extra functions.

In this detailed, hands-on review, we’ll examine this versatile Brewista Artisan kettle to give you a better idea of what it can do for your morning coffee ritual.

Brewista Artisan Electric Gooseneck Kettle Hands-on Review

Brewista Artisan Electric Gooseneck Kettle Summary

Pros:

  • Digital water temperature control with increments of one degree
  • Keeps water at the preset temperature for up to an hour
  • Built-in timer
  • Aesthetically beautiful available in a range of colors

Cons:

  • Quite expensive

Aesthetic Design

The first thing you’ll notice with the Brewista Artisan kettle is its beautiful design. This product really will look fantastic on any kitchen countertop. Stainless steel makes up the bulk of the material, and it looks satisfyingly sturdy and hard-wearing. It also has some gorgeous wood-like accents to complement the black-matte finish. Indeed, the lid, handle, and bottom of the kettle feel like and resemble proper wood.

The Artisan kettle we have been using regularly over the past year is the matte-black colored 600ml capacity version. This black kettle looks perfect alongside the Niche Zero coffee grinder. That product is black with an (albeit genuine) wooden base too, so if you’re interested in aesthetics, this is something to keep in mind. If this is something that appeals to you, we also have a comprehensive review of the Niche Zero grinder.

As we mentioned, the Brewista Artisan electric gooseneck kettle is available in a selection of colors. So, if black doesn’t match your kitchen, you can opt for metallic red, pearl white, iridescent, gunmetal gray, or the classic-looking brushed stainless. With an extensive choice such as this, there should be something to match either your kitchen, shop or your personal preference.

The black-tempered high gloss black base has angled sides, while there is further attention to detail elsewhere. For example, there is a touch panel with a backlight that you won’t notice until you switch it on. It has a white LED display that is the same color as the buttons. This gives a clean overall aesthetic and is easy to read.

Generally, there’s nothing to dislike about the appearance of the Brewista Artisan, and it’ll likely be a kettle that you’re happy to use and see in your kitchen or brew bar every day.

Features That Take The Hassle Out Of Brewing

While it’s true that the Brewista Artisan gooseneck kettle is beautiful to look at, it has far more to offer than gorgeous aesthetics. Indeed, it is built to serve the needs of home baristas as well as professional baristas.

Temperature Control

The Brewista Artisan allows you to select a water temperature precise to one degree. Indeed, you can set the digital control to within one degree anywhere from 104F (40C) to 212F (100C). You can make your preferred temperature selection using the “+” or “-” buttons. Not only that, but you can toggle the unit display between Fahrenheit and Celsius with the simple push of a button. After you have set the temperature, the device will even remember your setting the next time you turn on the kettle.

Another nice feature of the temperature selection feature is that whenever the kettle is on the base, it will show you the real-time temperature display.

Fans of pour over coffee are aware of accuracy when brewing, with each minor detail affecting the finished product. With kettles that don’t allow you to set the temperature, it is necessary to test the temperature using a standalone thermometer – and even boil the kettle first before allowing the water to cool to an ideal temperature of 197F to 204F. This variable temperature feature removes all that hassle and extra time required.

We consider the variable temperature function one of the best features of the Brewista Artisan. Because you can alter the temperature up or down to within one degree – and keep an eye on what the temperature is at any point – it really does remove much of the waiting and hassle of brewing great pour over coffee.

Keep Warm

The auto-warm function is another significant advantage of the Brewista Artisan. It can keep your water at the temperature of your choosing for up to an hour via the Keep Warm setting. This means you can let the water stand in the kettle while you grind your coffee beans and prepare the filter papers and dripper.

When you have everything else in place, lift the kettle and begin pouring water safe in the knowledge that it will be at the temperature you require. The only thing you need to remember is to press the Keep Warm button when you place the kettle back on its base.

Super Boil Function

Sometimes you might be in a hurry. If that’s the case, the Brewista Artisan has you covered. Simply touch the Flash Boil button, it can override any previously selected temperature. Fast Boil takes advantage of the product’s 1000 watt heating element to bring cold water up to a boiling point in between three and four minutes.

Built-In Timer

Whenever you remove the kettle from its base, you can press the timer icon button on the touchscreen. This sets off the built-in counter timer. When you are brewing pour over coffee, one of the most important things to be aware of is extraction time. This feature takes care of that consideration without needing a secondary device, such as a timer app on your cellphone.

Capacity And Dimension

There are two capacities of the Brewista Artisan. In this review, we use the 600ml capacity version. However, there is also a 1L capacity option.

If you usually make one to two cups of pour over coffee, the 600ml capacity model will be adequate. However, if you regularly aim for more than two cups at a time, you should choose the 1L model. The 600ml version has a fill line at that capacity. Don’t be tempted to fill it any higher, as this will lead to spillages.

Regardless of which version of the Brewista Artisan you opt for, the product is easy to grip and lightweight.

Size-wise, it is around as tall as a 6-cup Moka pot. In other words, it’s compact enough to sit on your kitchen counter without taking up too much space.

Pouring Experience

All the functions outlined in this review so far remove the hassle out of brewing pour over coffee. However, they are not essential to the process. A decent gooseneck kettle, above all, offers the user more control. To that end, the Brewista Artisan is an excellent option for upgrading your coffee experience.

The Brewista Artisan boasts a narrow gooseneck spout which promotes extremely precise pouring. The handle benefits from outstanding balance and an ergonomic design, offering comfort while holding it and making for a fantastic pour over coffee.

Gooseneck spout

The kettle has excellent precision and flow rate, allowing for an optimum extraction for pour over coffee. The flow rate is neither too rapid nor too slow, but perfect, in our opinion. This means it won’t unexpectedly pour too much coffee if you speed up, while it won’t stop pouring if you slow down. The entire pouring process is controlled and smooth.

The water will also fall exactly where the spout is pointing, making it perfect for pour over newbies.

Value For Money

The Brewista Artisan is not one of the cheaper models on the market. While it’s predictably more expensive than less feature-rich products, it’s even pricier than other variable-temperature models. True, it is customizable and offers excellent control. Meanwhile, the features it has help brew excellent coffee. Still, it is an expensive home-use option.

If you maintain the kettle and regularly descale it, you will get a decent amount of use out of it. Also, as well as all the features it has, it looks beautiful, meaning you get what you pay for to a large extent.

Are There Any Alternatives?

Best Budget Option

Bonavita has a 1L gooseneck kettle with a built-in timer and variable temperature function to one degree. It can keep the water to whatever temperature you set for up to an hour too.

Indeed, the Bonavista Electric Kettle has almost every feature of the Brewista Artisan gooseneck variable kettle, but it lacks quality aesthetics. However, if you have a smaller budget and can live with the bog-standard stainless steel and plastic base and handle, it’s an option worth considering. If you want functionality and great looks, the Brewista Artisan is the one.

Similar-Priced Option

If you don’t mind about the cost but aren’t a fan of the Brewista Artisan’s design, the Fellow Stagg EKG Kettle is worth investigating. It costs almost the same as the Brewista Artisan while offering a more modern and sleek design with most of the same functionality. Both the Fellow Stagg EKG and the Brewista Artisan are excellent options for moving your pour over coffee experience to another level. We reviewed the Fellow Stagg EKG and compare it with Brewista Artisan, you can check and see which one suits you the best.
