Are you tired of drinking the same coffee day after day? Unsatisfied with the blandness of your store-bought beans? Ready to diversify your selection and elevate your coffee drinking? If you answered “yes” to any of these, it’s time to consider the Trade Coffee subscription.

We tried their subscription and tasted three bags of coffee they sent us. Here is our thought about this coffee subscription.

Trade Coffee Subscription Review

Coffee Options

In writing our Trade Coffee subscription review, we found that Trade Coffee’s vast selection is one of the company’s most essential and astounding features. Trade Coffee boasts an ensemble of 496 coffees from which to choose. Previously we reviewed the top coffee of the month clubs, Trade coffee offers more options than the others.

trade-coffee-browsing

On their website, customers can filter their coffee selection using several categories, including:

  • Roast level, ranging from light to dark
  • Region of origin of the coffee beans, including five different continents
  • Blends or single origin coffees
  • Certifications, such as organic or fair trade
  • Espresso, cold brew, or decaf coffees
  • Types of coffee, including unique flavor profiles
  • Whole bean coffee or ground coffee

The ability to manually narrow the search according to coffee preferences and interests allows customers to find a product that checks every box.

Say, for example, we wanted to try a certified organic medium roast with milk chocolate notes and beans from Central America. After selecting those options, the Trade Coffee website recommended a coffee called “Guatemala La Hermosa” from a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, roaster known as Anodyne. You can learn more details about this coffee by clicking on it.

With such a vast selection, you are sure to find a delicious coffee that suits your taste.

If you have any trouble manually finding a coffee that sounds perfect for you, you can allow Trade Coffee to find one for you. After answering a few simple questions about your coffee preferences, the website will recommend a few options.

Subscription Options

Once you have found (or allowed Trade Coffee to find) a coffee you want to try, the site will prompt you to decide how your Trade Coffee subscription will work.

You can opt to receive either a standard coffee bag, which brews about 16 cups of coffee, or the 32-ounce pack, which brews roughly 45 cups. You can also choose to receive one package at a time or several. If you feel confident in your selection, we recommend the 32-ounce bag of coffee, as it is more cost-effective and better for the environment.

Another subscription option is the frequency with which Trade Coffee delivers to your home. Depending on how quickly you drink coffee, you can choose to have a bag sent every week, ten days, or two weeks. You can also select to receive your coffee as whole beans or ground for whatever machine you use, such as a coffee maker, French press, espresso machine, or percolator.

Though you’ll choose a starter coffee, your Trade Coffee subscription won’t bind you to that coffee alone. Instead, you can update your tastes and elect to receive new coffees of interest. You can change each Trade Coffee subscription option simply by logging into your account and updating your preferences.

What’s more, the Trade Coffee subscription ensures shipping is always free. If you instead opt for an à la carte purchase, you will have to pay the extra shipping cost.

Besides the subscription plans for yourself, trade offers excellent and flexible gift options. Simply input the redeem code and your loved ones can choose their own flavor and shipping frequency.

Coffee Quality

The excellent quality of each Trade Coffee product is a testament to their work in tandem with some of the best roasters in the US.

The family-owned Joe Coffee out of New York City and the woman-owned Mother Tongue Coffee out of Oakland are just two of the many expert and reputable roasters teamed up with Trade Coffee. Partnering with these small and mid-sized local roasters ensures that passion and care go into every batch of coffee you receive.

Further, unlike store-bought coffee, each bag delivered to your home through the Trade Coffee subscription is roasted right before it’s packaged and sent. Instead of stale coffee beans, Trade Coffee ensures you’ll receive the freshest products.

We placed the order on May 28 and the coffee was roasted on May 30, right before shipping.
In the 2nd week, the beans were roasted on June 13, 2 days before we received it.

User Experience – We love the Quiz!

The Trade Coffee website is exceptionally user-friendly and straightforward to navigate. You can either shop for coffees manually, using categories to filter your search, or choose to have the site find the proper coffee(s) for you.

Should you choose the latter of the two options, you’ll take a brief eight-question quiz about your personal preferences. The quiz will want to know the following:

  • What brewing equipment you use to make coffee at home
  • Your level of coffee experience
  • What, if anything, you add to your coffee
  • What roast level you most enjoy
  • Any flavors or hints you like to taste in your coffee
  • Whether you prefer whole bean or ground coffee
  • Whether you drink regular or decaf coffee
  • Your price range

The Trade Coffee website will then show a recommended coffee to begin your subscription. You can find plenty of information about the roaster and the coffee itself on each coffee page. The site provides the roaster’s location, the roasting schedule, and a fun fact about the roaster.

We took the quiz and Trade suggested the coffee by Greater Goods Coffee, easy.

Each coffee also comes with a couple of descriptions from the roaster and Trade Coffee. Read these to get a sense of the coffee’s flavor and notes, the roast level, and the regional origin of the beans.

The second bag is medium roasted Colombian beans from Red Bay Coffee. 3 bags in 3 shipments, great for exploring different flavors.

At any point during your Trade Coffee subscription, you can log in to your account to change your preferences and pause or cancel your subscription.

Value for Money

Relative to what you may pay for a bag of coffee at the store, Trade Coffee can be somewhat expensive. However, the high quality of each bag of coffee you’ll receive from Trade Coffee makes the price difference worth every penny. In addition, there are a couple of ways to maximize efficiency.

The Trade Coffee subscription guarantees free shipping on every delivery, so you’ll never worry about that cost. Once you’ve found an amazing coffee you love, go ahead and order several bags at once, or simply go with the larger bag option. In addition, if you start a Trade Coffee subscription today, you’ll receive $25 off your first order.

What Sets Trade Coffee Apart from Other Subscription Services?

When you choose the Trade Coffee subscription, you open yourself to many different options. The vast selection of over 500 coffees means you can find the perfect pairing for your taste buds or continue to experiment with different roasts and flavor profiles.

Further, you’ll be supporting a company dedicated to aiding small business growth, making a difference in local communities by supporting local causes, and creating US jobs.
